A little change

Things have been a little different around here. My sister is on a school trip to Cambodia, my mom has been obsessed with the new pet rabbit I have in my house (explains why I have my music softer at night now) and I have gotten myself my first digital SLR along the weekend. His name is Cotton and he is mighty cute. I must say that it is very convenient to shoot anytime with it, but I would still prefer film in the long run in the case of my personal work. I’ve long fallen in love with the satisfaction of developing and washing and finding out that there is one shot in the whole roll of film that you really love.

Some snapshots, trying out my camera at night in town-

By the way, I do have to present the new kid in the house, Cotton!

I love how he hops.

Materialism- The New Religion
Publication
2009

Notes / Permalink

It has been a year long overdue but I am here again to post my Final Year Project which I did for the last few months of school. After Graduation, many good things have happened. It has been an amazing “transition year”. I can’t say I have built more confidence over these few months but somehow I know what I really want to be now. This publication was the kickstart of my beginning of a young designer and I am proud to present to you

Materialism- The New Religion.

-

Materialism- The new religion is a publication that mocks
consumers as worshippers to “Materialism”, where the Shopping Centre is the New Santuary and Television Ads the New Gospel. As Singaporeans are one of the most materialistic people in the world, this bible aims to portray Materialism from a different perspective, where we are believers and servants to money and designer goods. Instead of preaching about the negativities of Materialism, the publicaton mocks consumers in a witty and sarcastic way, bringing it to a humourous light.

just noticed this photograph I’ve taken in Nara, Japan. I’ve overlooked something about it that makes me feel nostalgic all over again.
The cold weather that was just right, the blooming sakuras, the nature of the city.

Touching down to Tokyo, 2008

-

Last weekend I had the opportunity of “travelling alone” up north to Kuala Lumpur (Note: for a day. haha) , Malaysia. Not entirely, though. Just when I thought I would be lost for hours finding my cheap guesthouse in chinatown in a dorm wth 2 dozen other travellers, my friend Alia offered me her place to stay in. And, she picked me up with her car and we drove all around KL, from the town to the west and back.

I wouldn’t have minded at all to live in a guesthouse, which I foresee myself doing for many years. But the time spent driving around KL was such an experience. It was more than the busy streets with people walking around in all directions, the amazing street food, it was the escape. It felt like home it felt familiar but at the same time I felt so free. That’s what I love about travelling. The ability to control and plan what you wish to do. The knowing of the unknown, only to realise you don’t know much about where you are if you don’t try hard enough.

Freedom is what I seek, and it would be found even in the smallest corners and plain surfaces and also, in your state of mind. Let yourself free.
